Ripley is usually a pretty salty baseball program on that Highway 51 corridor. It's the same baseball program that produced former St. Louis Cardinal and current Washington National pitcher Ray King.
It also is a team that suffered an 8-3 loss to the McKenzie Rebels.
The Rebels improved to 6-4 on the season with the big victory in the SportsPlus Tournament in Jackson Wednesday night.
Drew Brown homered and Nick Chappell crushed a three-run blast to lead the Rebel offense. Luke Anderson laced a double.
"We're getting some power in places we didn't expect," said McKenzie coach Lynn Yarbrough. "Clint Kee pitched very well, too."
Kee struck out 11 Tigers in the victory.
McKenzie can wrap up the Pool C championship if it can win two tonight, Thursday. The Rebels face Riverside at 5:30 then takes on South Side at 8 p.m. South Side beat Ripley 6-3 on Tuesday night.
