For the first time in McKenzie school history, both boys' and girls' golf teams trod upon the hallowed grasses of the state golf tourney.
The Lady Rebels and Rebels fared well for young squads at Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester.
The Lady Rebels fired a two-day 370 which was good enough for sixth place. Maggie Glass shot 85 both days while Mallory Cole carded a 98 and 102 through two days. Julie French shot 100-110 for a two-day 210. The Lady Rebels found themselves in striking range of third place after the first round, two shots behind Summertown. Glass was 11th overall, individually.
In boys' play, McKenzie claimed fifth place, 15 shots behind Houston County. Anders Rider carded a 79-83 for a two-day 172. Ben Austin shot 84-81 165. Jonathan Moore recorded 166, Will Jones had a 182 and Will McBride added a 205. McKenzie was in sixth place with four holes to play and rallied to overtake South Greene by eight strokes to capture fifth place.
Rider finished 21st individually. Austin tied for 28th and Moore finished 31st.
The Lady Rebels finished with a 39-9 mark while the Rebels ended 46-10. Rider and Jones are the lone seniors on this team.
