There is some unfinished business for these McKenzie Lady Rebels. They visit District 14A champion South Fulton in the first round of the Region 7A softball tournament.

Just the same, McKenzie's girls' softball team held its awards banquet Saturday night at McKenzie High School's cafeteria.

Clayton Owen served as master of ceremonies. He welcomed guests, offered gratitude to those who helped out this season and recalled some fun times with the players and this season.

"With 21 girls on varsity and JV, there are a lot of places we have to be," Owen said. "The parents have helped out a lot."

He turned the program over to head coach Jessica Hardy, making her last appearance as softball coach at the banquet.

"Ladies, the end is coming close," she said. "We made it out of district and that's an accomplishment. We're one win away from substate."

She thanked the seniors for their dedication and for riding it out this year. The seniors for this year's team are Sarah Owen, Colby Prosser and Lesley Robertson. During the awards presentation, Hardy said that the official scorekeeper said Prosser had the fewest errors and was the best catcher in District 13A.

The Lady Rebel awardess were as follows:

Newcomer award - Crystal Doub

Most Improved - Summer Cupples

Golden Glove - Tenisha Carey

Perseverance Award - Kate Barcroft

Best Offense - Mignon Salameh

Best Defense - Colby Prosser

Team Leader - Sarah Owen

MVP - Trevatia Bowden

The Lady Rebels are in a must-win situation in the District 13A tournament. If they can topple South Fulton, they'll visit either Huntingdon or Union City in the Region 7A championship and earn a substate game with either Trinity, Adamsville, Fayette Academy or Middleton. Substate is an elimination round. Substate winners get one of eight invitations to the state tournament in Murfreesboro.
